Experience racism at this great establishment. At breakfast, a server came up to use and asked for our room number despite having signed at the door and being escorted by another server to our table. And then we kept observing this server if he would do this to other folks - he didn't. We were the only brown couple in an otherwise room filled with old white folks. sigh. Pls train your staff to not do stupid things like this lest you lose out on high earner-spender tourists. More importantly, it's not OK to be racist in this day and age. Pls be better

We hebben hier in het restaurant zeer lekker gegeten. Lamskoteletjes met gratin aardappeltjes en groenten. Zeer lekker dessert ook cheesecake en Belgian Waffle. Lekkere wijn. Vriendelijke service.

We stopped at the Alexandra for a night on our road trip from St. Andrews to Inverness. Fiona was an incredible hostess, we arrived right as the kitchen was closing and she asked the cooks to stay open long enough for us to drop our bags in the room and come down to the restaurant. There was no parking available in front of the hotel, but there is overnight parking across the street that wasn’t too crowded. We went for a nice walk on the other side of the bridge the next morning, we can’t recommend the Alexandra enough!

I was due to stay at the Hotel prior to spending two days hillwalking locally. Due to an unexpected road closure, my arrival was disrupted and Fiona and Allan couldn't have been more helpful in helping me out. On returning to Ballater two days later, I had lunch in the lounge bar and the food and beer on offer was excellent. Thoroughly recommend the Alexandra and the friendly and very helpful owners.

We popped in here for lunch on our way home from a weekend trip. The restaurant was modern and immaculately clean. The bar person also acted as server and he was very friendly and efficient. The menu available was fairly extensive so something for all tastes. The food arrived promptly, was piping hot, delicious and excellent value for money. We will definitely be back.

Lovely place. Nice clean rooms. Friendly welcome. Nice bar and good breakfast. Catered well for my Gluten free needs. Rooms in good decorative order but a little dated. TV in room very small ( didn't work- not an issue for us but could be for others). Nice location in lovely town Hope to stay here again

Had a nice meal there last Sunday so we are looking forward to going back tonight. Good food at ok prices in a nice quiet lounge with no loud music.

Small, friendly family run hotel in the centre of Ballater. The ensuite room was very comfortable, immaculately clean and well appointed. Breakfast was excellent. Great base for hillwalking and mountain biking.

A superb, small, family run hotel. "The Alex" has excellently stocked bar with 7 or 8 taps. They've always got 2 taps exclusively to the Cairngorms brewery. When we stayed over Saturday past, Trade Winds and Wild Cat were on tap. Food, is excellent, home made pub grub,and good portion size too. Rooms are perhaps a tad dated, but, a very comfy bed and great shower more than compensates. For breakfast there are several hot options, but I always pick the full Scottish, which sets me up for the day. All in all, a great stay, very clean and efficient and friendly staff. 'Til the next time...

We visited here for dinner - we had looked at a couple of bars in Balleter but didn't fancy them and went here instead. Initially it seemed there weren't any tables but after 5 minutes or so the staff were able to allocate a table. 😀 Service and food were good with my wife and me pleased with our choices of veggie lasagne and ordinary lasagne, followed by apple pie. 😋 The bar area looked very fresh and, on speaking to staff when we were leaving, we were surprised to find out it had been decorated a year ago so it's very well kept.

Very straightforward establishment - warm welcome, wide choice of beer, wine and a menu which made it dificult to choose! Great for kids too, I imagine. Meal and drinks excellent!

Beautiful building. Spotlessly clean, comfortable, and very friendly. The dinner was just perfect, and the breakfast was delicious too. The owners and their team were so professional and kind. Of course, we will stay here again when we're in the area, 100%.

We ate at the Alexandra hotel while traveling in Scotland. The food was quite delicious. Especially the lasagna. Unfortunately the wait staff woman who took care of us on May 22 nd really put a damper on the experience. She was not friendly and seemed put out to be helping us. That made us look to other restaurants for meals unfortunately.

Enjoyed a meal at the restaurant and it was a treat. Friendly and efficient staff, good beer and a delicious steak and ale pie!
